Someone must have slandered Josef K.
He was arrested one morning even though he knew he had done nothing wrong. Mrs. Grubach's cook brought her breakfast every morning at seven o'clock. Mrs. Grubach was his landlady, but for some reason she was not around that day. He couldn't remember anything like this ever happening before. K.; He waited a while longer, without lifting his head from the pillow, looking at the old woman who lived in the building right across the street and was watching him with unusual curiosity. He was both hungry and bored. He couldn't stand it anymore and rang the bell. As soon as he rang the bell, there was a knock on the door and a man entered the room.
He had never seen the man in this house before. He was a thin but well-built man. He was wearing a black suit that hugged his body tightly. This dress had many pockets, buckles, buttons and a belt, which looked very useful even though I didn't know exactly what they were for.
"Who are you?" asked K., half sitting up in his bed.
The man ignored the question as if it was completely natural for him to enter like this, "Did you ring the bell?" He just asked.
