Tören Simge Siyaset
This book deals with the competing ways of celebrating the spring festival in Turkey, which is celebrated as the awakening of nature and the arrival of spring in the northern hemisphere and is called Nevruz, Newroz, Nooruz, Nowruz, Navriz and many other different names by the people of Anatolia, the Middle East and Asia.
The study focuses on the emergence of Newroz celebrations as a form of collective expression of Kurdish identity and politics and the process of promoting this awareness through organized efforts, in the face of the official policies of the Republic of Turkey built within the framework of monist and Turkish-centered political-cultural existence, and continues with the emphasis on the process of Newroz celebrations as a form of collective expression of Kurdish identity and politics. The evolution of the official discourse in response to its adoption among Turkish Kurds is examined, and the support and dissemination of Nevruz celebrations by public institutions and organizations is revealed.
Focusing on the historical and political context of the competition between Newroz and Newroz celebrations, which has become especially acute since the 1990s, the book discusses how the field of traditional culture became the focus and object of a struggle parallel to the political field, and discusses whether this competition contains a possibility of peace.
