Cicero and Hegel's Conceptions of Metaphor Book Description The name we will focus on as the representative of the theory of comparison will be Cicero. Since Max Black will be considered the representative of "interaction theory" and Aristotle will be considered the representative of "analogy theory" (that is, these people are more capable of representing ideas that correspond to the content of those theories), the emphasis will be on Cicero. As with the Interaktion theory, its namesake is Max Black. According to him, the fundamental difference between the substitution theory and its special form, the "comparative" theory, can be explained by the example of "Richard is a lion" (Black 1954/1996, 67; 1977, 381). The basic issue is no different from the transition between istiʻāra and tashbīh (Duman 2018: LS 4.10, 4.11; p.406-12). This second book of the series (the first was Lacan's Understanding of Metaphor) does not only contain the Theory of Comparison; At the same time, “Cicero's Rhetorical Understanding” is also explained in detail as a complement to the theory. In addition, under the title of "metaphorical reaction", Nietzsche, Hobbes and Locke, who are among the most important representatives of the critical attitude, were also included. In fact, we did not neglect topics that we thought were integral, such as the concept of "Geist" and catharsis. (From the Promotional Bulletin)
