JG Ballard, in this giant work, destroys and provokes our relationship with technology and carries us into a "car love" dystopia. The heroes of this machine-eroticism delirium, which some critics point out as the only example of its kind and others find disgusting, are frighteningly involved in our daily lives, and the distorted connections of their pleasure and obsession are under a cliff on the edge of which we always stand. In the lines where the car, as a symbol of power, status and sexuality, becomes the fetish object itself, Ballard puts the horror of the real and the possible against the alienation of science fiction, in accordance with the view that "The real alien planet is our earth".

The Collision, which created a great impact when it was adapted into a movie by David Cronenberg and created great controversy when it received the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, is one of the most important examples of dystopian literature.
