Contemporary Art
The multiplicity and extraordinary diversity of works of art, as well as the inextricable conceptual confusion it creates, lead to various difficulties in placing them in a historical context. Beyond attempting to define the philosophical and aesthetic premises of the concept of Contemporary Art, this small reference work also attempts to explain a terminological dichotomy based primarily on the distinction between "contemporary" and "modern". The relationship between art circles and the purchasing public, the commercial and institutional connections of artists, and the presence of art in the public sphere are among the main topics discussed.
