This book, beyond being Türker Ertuncay's individual story, is one of the essential building blocks for the reconstruction of our collective memory of an important and painful period in Turkey's history, our memory that was intended to be erased and forgotten, like all other autobiographies, biographies and monographs describing that period. Ertuncay's book, unlike its counterparts, brings two perspectives that we have not seen before to this common memory that needs to be reconstructed. The first is where Ertuncay stands and looks; It exemplifies looking outward from a certain position within a political structure (TKP/ML) that covers a significant part of his youth. The second perspective allows us to witness a person's accounting with his past, regardless of the political structure, because while reading the story of the "revolutionary" Türker among the pages, we can also see another Türker who has put his attributes aside. These two perspectives sometimes reveal themselves in different lines of a single letter written in prison on a tissue paper, and sometimes as sincere emotional expressions inevitably attached to a political criticism. Are there any controversial points in this book? Of course there is. However, the purpose of writing the book is not to offer solutions, but to discuss them. We hope that Ertuncay's book will contribute to the discussions that revive our collective memory, which the 1980 coup wanted to erase, and bring it to the present day, and perhaps even carry it to the future, because it is not possible to look at the present without seeing the past.
