Crime and Punishment
Raskolnikov, whom Dostoyevsky observed Russia and the Russian people and extracted from them, is the darkest character of both the author and the history of literature. The story of a young law student who believes that his poverty will not allow him to build a beautiful and bright life, planning to kill the old loan shark and steal her money, has taken literature to another dimension with the moral and philosophical questions he asks to humanity based on Raskolnikov's dilemmas and internal conflicts.
Since its publication in 1866, Crime and Punishment has never lost its currency with its approach to modern man and the crucial questions it asks, and has raised the bar of literature to a level that is difficult to reach. The novel, in which Dostoyevsky reflects his genius in all its aspects, is also the psychological record of a crime.
“Like experiencing love for the first time, like seeing the sea for the first time, discovering Dostoyevsky is an important date in a person's life.”
