Bitlis Cultural Heritage Book Description on the Axis of Foundation Records Bitlis is one of the ancient cities of Anatolia with its cultural riches. Despite many destructions, written, oral and monumental cultural elements in Bitlis and its surroundings are still alive in places such as Ahlat, Adilcevaz, Güroymak (Norşin) and Hizan, especially in Bitlis center. It is possible to come across many works of Islamic civilization in the region conquered during the period of the Caliphate. The basis of this book in your hands is the Bitlis Foundation Registry Book, which is located in the Bitlis Regional Directorate of Foundations but was later sent to the Archives of the General Directorate of Foundations. However, this study was not limited to the notebook in question; other archive documents were also used. In order to enable researchers to access this notebook more easily, the documents recorded in Ottoman Turkish in the notebook were transcribed. The Arabic and Persian documents in the notebook were recorded verbatim - in Arabic and Persian. It was aimed to meet the religious needs of the people with mosques, masjids and other charitable foundations established in the region. In addition, many madrasahs were built by both administrators and philanthropists in order to raise the scientific level of the local people and eliminate ignorance, which is stated as the biggest enemy. In addition, the existence of lodges, lodges, inns and hangahs in and around Bitlis shows that a Sufi way of life is advanced. Many foundations have been built in Bitlis and its surroundings over the centuries. The foundations in question and the records related to these foundations that have survived to the present day carry with them many cultural traces of the past, including religious, scientific, political, sectarian and mystical. The most important conclusion drawn from this research, which was largely based on archive documents, is that it reveals the social and cultural history of Bitlis in a coherent way.
