Cursed Courtyard

Cursed Courtyard is the striking narrative of the groundbreaking Nobel Prize-winning author Ivo Andriç in Balkan literature, on the experience of imprisonment and the limits of will. Muslim, Jewish and Christian prisoners gathered in the "cursed courtyard" of a prison in Ottoman Istanbul resist the pessimistic atmosphere of the prison courtyard with their stories that combine the personal and the historical. While the story of one of the prisoners opens up to the exile and imprisonment experience of the Ottoman prince Cem Sultan, the story of another presents real-life scenes that have survived from the multinational heritage of the Balkans.
