Dashnaks and Unionists
The most central issue when examining Tasnaktsutyun's strategies and activities during the Constitutional Monarchy period is the party's relations with the Committee of Union and Progress (ITC), its main ally in the struggle to overthrow Abdulhamid's tyranny.
Tasnaktsutyun, who was the most indomitable defender of the Constitutional regime and mobilized all its resources for the success of the Constitutional Monarchy, was able to gain a wide circle among ITF officers because it could not think of any other applicable system for the Empire that could ensure the freedom of the Armenian population from discrimination and oppression and a reasonable degree of security. According to the Tasnaks, the Unionists did not have many alternatives. The success of the Constitutional Monarchy could not be considered apart from the success of the ITF. This was the main reason why the party defended the ITC and continued its cooperation even after the persecution in the Adana massacres.
So what happened that the relationship between the two parties, which had shared fate in a way, deteriorated irreversibly within a few years? Kaligian searches for the answer to this question, which played a key role in the Tasnaks and Unionists on the road to 1915, in the light of documents and sources that have not been discussed so far.
