Dilin Derin Devleti Deyimler
The aim of this study is to examine the structural and semantic features of idioms used in modern Arabic and to investigate the place and importance of idioms in both teaching and use of Arabic. Idioms were examined in three categories. These; The categories are semantics, pragmatics and syntax. In addition, in some cases required by the context, the morphemes that make up the idioms have also been examined in terms of morphology and etymology. Thus, the characteristic features, cultural and linguistic backgrounds, places of use and syntactic features of idioms in Arabic have been tried to be revealed. The subject of idioms has not been given much attention in modern Arabic language research, and it seems that no new studies have been conducted on it, except for the studies done in the classical period and some fragmentary studies. Moreover, there is not even a comprehensive Arabic dictionary that includes only idioms. As for the studies and dictionaries made in the classical period, these are studies that deal with idioms together with proverbs. Moreover, most of the idioms in these books written in the classical period and generally named Mecma'u'l-Emsâl, Emsâlu'l-'Arab, Cemheratu'l-Emsâl are abandoned idioms that are no longer used in modern Arabic. Since this study was based on the living idioms of modern Arabic, the mentioned books were not consulted much.
