
Dengbêjlik and Dengbêjlik Tradition in Kurdish Culture from a Sociological Perspective
Dengbêjlik: Forming the basic infrastructure of Kurdish culture, within; It is an artistic phenomenon that includes social science, philosophy, oral literature, political and historical mission. Kurds, who have had to express their culture verbally throughout history, have ensured that their culture, which has deep-rooted foundations, has survived to the present day with the tradition of Dengbêj. Dengbêjler, which reverses the situation of writing while words fly, emerges with the help of music; They produced stans (songs), kilams (verse stories) and lawjes (mystical sermons). Thus, an oral literature covering the smallest details of the daily lives of the Kurds began, and these narratives reached large audiences thanks to the melodies and led to the formation of a tradition that has continued for centuries. “Based on the assumption that dengbêjîn has a social aspect, that is, a kind of duty, and that the people who practice this culture also have an adjective and duty, we can say that they create creation myths that the society firmly believes in, heroic epics that affect the whole of the society, and great disasters that the society faces. They were religious priests or officials who sang the hymns of the religion they believed in at the time (Mithraism, Magic, Zoroastrianism) and traveled from place to place and made the society believe in them. Dengbêjs were also priests who directed these hymns during religious rituals and, in a way, guided and influenced the spiritual and psychological world of the society.
