Diary of a Madman
Gogol, one of the founders of Russian realism, describes a schizophrenic trying to hold on to life with "The Diary of a Madman" and "The Nose". In his stories "" and "The Overcoat", he describes the general structure of Russian society by combining fantastic elements with his observation ability and subtle irony. Considered the source of inspiration for important Russian writers, Gogol wrote three plays during his lifetime and many of his works were adapted into plays after his death. "Diary Notebook of a Madman", which was staged in our country and had great repercussions around the world, is one of them. Gogol, who realistically reveals the functioning of the Russian bureaucracy while opening different windows to the readers, is perhaps best summarized by Dostoyevsky with the words "We all came out of Gogol's 'The Overcoat'."
