Durkheim and Modern Education Book Description Emile Durkheim continued to lecture and write about education throughout his academic life and paid much attention to the theory-practice aspects of education and the areas where it intersects with morality. Most of his works on this subject were published posthumously and were based mostly on the notes of his students. It was translated into English after World War II. However, philosophers of education increasingly state that Durkheim's ideas are applicable to modern education. In this book, Durkheim's place in modern educational thought is discussed at three different levels: Durkheim's ideas on education are analyzed and placed in the context of modern society, current educational problems are examined within the Durkheimian framework, and Durkheim's ideas are associated with modern educational theory.
