Nazım Hikmet Üstüne Yazılar
“835 Lines, published in 1929, exploded like a bomb in Turkish poetry, primarily due to the revolution it created in the field of form and also in tone of voice. Socialism was not an unknown doctrine in Turkey. Socialists were establishing parties, publishing magazines, and defending their ideas even under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. For example, Tevfik Fikret published some of his poems in the magazine of Nüzhet Sabit, a socialist.
A poet with purely Marxist and Leninist ideas could not have created such a strong impact. But the poetic meter and the tone of voice reflected in the verses, which Nâzim Hikmet, who had known Mayakovsky and read the Futurists while studying in Moscow, called 'Free Nazim', had never been seen or heard before in Turkish poetry. 835 Satir exploded like a bomb, both because of this innovation he brought and because he easily made poetry readers adopt this innovation.
Revolutionary innovations are often met with reaction. This was not the case in the case of Nâzim Hikmet. The resistance from conservative artists was soon broken under the pressure of poetry readers.”
“Essays on Nâzım Hikmet” consists of Memet Fuat's articles published in various magazines and newspapers between 1965 and 1998. In these articles, Memet Fuat corrects many mistakes with his scientific studies and first-hand testimonies about Nâzim Hikmet's poetry, life and works, and guides the reader to better understand Nâzim.
