This book, which we translated into Turkish under the title Intelligence Wars: Espionage Activities in Syria and Lebanon in the First World War , has a very rich content, especially on intelligence, espionage and propaganda. The book covers everything from non-Muslim groups in the Middle East to separatist Arab movements and their covert activities, from Cemal Pasha's negotiations with the French for Syria and Lebanon to Enver and Talat Pasha's plans to turn Syria into a Khedive, from the Ottoman intelligence structure and counter-espionage activities in the region to secret funds, the danger of Zionism. and many situations and events, from the Nili espionage network to the regional press, are shed light. On the other hand, prominent historical figures in the Arab lands under Ottoman rule, and more specifically in Syria and Lebanon, are also mentioned. Emir Şekib Arslan, Aziz Ali el-Mısrî, Şarl Debbas, Thomas Edward Lawrence, Cevat Rifat Atilhan, İzzet el-Cündî and Esad Şukayrî, as well as some names in the 4th Army intelligence structure and enemy spies, security guards and intelligence officers of the Ottoman Empire. In the 87 years since its publication, historians fluent in Arabic have used this memoir, which does not have a Turkish original, as a reliable source due to its importance and used it in their studies. However, they ignored the strong evidence that Aziz Bey was not in Syria and Lebanon during the period in the memoirs and the questions that this evidence might raise.
