Beş Ahlak Yazısı
Umberto Eco collected his five writings, which are moral reckonings, under the name "Five Moral Writings". The first article of the book, "Thinking about War", is a comparison of traditional wars with modern wars and an attempt to understand modern war, based on the Gulf War. "Eternal Fascism" reveals the almost constant fascist symptoms of the adult Eco, who moves from the memoirs of the child Eco, who experienced fascism in Mussolini's Italy, to analyze the "eternal" qualities of fascism. The third article, "About the Press", deals with the transformation of the Italian press since the 1950s, but includes general evaluations about the press. The fourth article, "When the Other Enters the Stage", is an investigation of what kind of morality a person can create without being affiliated with any religious belief system - in short, an effort to establish "secular morality", which is an extremely current issue for Turkey. And the last article is "Migrations, Tolerance and "Intolerance" is an effort to think about the phenomenon of immigration, the most fundamental international problem of the year 2000, and how the future relations between West and East societies will evolve. Five problems, five moral reckonings that closely concern the Turkish society.
