Aşk-ı Memnu, one of the classic works of Turkish novel, is at Yapı Kredi Publications. This masterpiece of Halit Ziya was prepared for publication by Handan İnci, preserving the language and spelling as written by the author.

Halit Ziya Uşaklıgil's second important novel, along with Mai and Black, is Aşk-ı Memnu, the sad story of "forbidden love" that ends in disaster, resulting from a seemingly excessive and somewhat materialistic marriage.

Bihter, the young and beautiful daughter of Firdevs Hanım, from the family known as the Melih Bey team in Boğaziçi, marries Adnan Bey, who is in his forties and has two children, in order to live a somewhat prosperous life, to escape the bad reputation of his mother, who is a promiscuous woman, and to never be like her. . After Bihter comes to Adnan Bey's mansion as a bride, she tries to find the love that she cannot find in her husband Adnan Bey, in the forbidden love she has with her husband's flirtatious nephew Behlül. However, after a while, when Behlül abandons Bihter and returns to his ex-girlfriend in Beyoğlu, and then tries to get engaged to Adnan Bey's extremely emotional daughter, Nihal, the "forbidden love" in question is heard throughout the mansion. After a short struggle with herself, Bihter commits suicide to take revenge on her mother, Behlül and Nihal, who could not accept her coming to the mansion as a bride and thought that she had separated her father from her. Thereupon, Behlül runs away, Nihal is reunited with her father, and the order of the mansion, which was disrupted with the arrival of Bihter, is restored.

Aşk-ı Memnu, while introducing this aspect of the society that was entering a European life at the beginning of the last century, on the other hand, successfully processed all the elements required by realism, such as inheritance and determinism, seen in Europe and used by Western novelists, and became a novelty in the Turkish novel with its observations and detailed descriptions. created a turning point.
