Dr. Mehmed Şükrü Sekban emerged on the stage of history at the beginning of the twentieth century as one of the most influential actors of the Kurdish national struggle and Kurdish enlightenment. He took part in the establishment of many of the Kurdish societies that emerged during that period and played an active role in the national consciousness of Kurdish youth. Although he went to Iraq after the foundation of the Republic, he returned 16 years later. The booklet “La Question Kurd” (The Kurdish Question), published in Paris in 1933, which was influential in his return, began to be used as an argument for the Turkishness of the Kurds and as a tool for assimilation with the 1960 revolution. So much so that; this booklet, which was originally 30 pages, increased in time with additions and damages to 176 pages in its latest edition, and has been printed by eight different publishing houses so far and has been turned into a propaganda mechanism in the hands of Turkist groups.
In the work, he briefly tried to present the thesis that the Kurds are not a separate nation but originally belong to the Turkish race with unfounded arguments. For this reason, many articles were written to refute the arguments put forward in the work. Among these, the work you have in your hands stands out as the most important work. In this booklet, Refik Hilmi refutes Sekban's unfounded and scattered theses on Kurdish history, culture, geography, language and grammar one by one with academic approaches suitable for the discipline of Kurdology. Refik Hilmi's scientific views and thoughts on the spatial positioning of the Kurds in the historical process and the morphological development of the Kurdish language bring his work to a position that fills an important gap in the literature. In this respect, it is possible to evaluate the work as a thematic academic work in its own right, beyond being a book of criticism.
