Father Goriot, written by Balzac at the peak of his genius, is actually a novel of obsessive emotions such as love, hatred, lust for power, and unlimited passion. Old Goriot tells the story of young Rastignac and the evil Vautrin, who are determined to hold on in Paris. It focuses on the "bourgeois tragedy" caused by the spiral of power, power, money and indifference, as well as the transformation of a father's sacrifices for his daughters into deep suffering.
