The quality of the cadres that made the army in which the Pashtuns fought the British army stood out in the following aspects: Determination and idealism; openness to criticism and tendency to self-criticism; intellectual preparation and discipline.

The Pashtun resistance zone was a real endurance testing ground for British military and civilian staff, and the command realized that it could use it for exactly this purpose. Only the best, those who learned to be the best, would be able to survive. The army fought under very difficult conditions all over the world, but "the truth is that British soldiers have never experienced such a troublesome and difficult life as on the Pashtun front."
