Hacivat Diary, a real literary serial in which Salâh Birsel, the apple of Turkish language's eye, records his thoughts moment by moment, is not an ordinary diary, but a door opening to the corridors of writing. Birsel, who kept his diary with the diligence and meticulousness of an essayist, broke new ground by expanding the literary boundaries of this genre.

Hacivat Diary, which covers notes taken between 1949-1956 and 1972-1975, brings together many writers, poets and artists who were inspired by Birsel's witty pen. While some are met with loving praise from Birsel, others become the target of arrows of criticism. Birsel, who does not hesitate to target or shield himself from the same arrows when necessary, makes a unique contribution to the history of literature while moving between criticism, essay and diary genres.
