Cornelius Bischoff was a child when he came to Istanbul with his mother and sister, escaping from Nazi persecution. It was also the border between life and death that they crossed on this adventurous journey, where they narrowly escaped from the hands of the Nazi police. What the Bischoff family was looking for when coming to Istanbul was "a handful of safe lands, a peaceful home". This is how Cornelius spent his early youth as an "Istanbul child" in this city and stepped into adulthood. He experienced his first love here, swam in the cool waters of the Bosphorus, mingled with the cosmopolitan people of the city who spoke different languages, came from different cultures and came together in Istanbul, and gradually became one of us... When he was integrated into Çorum with his family, he also got to know the Anatolian people. In the words of Yaşar Kemal, "He is the most Turkish of Germans, the most German of Turks. "He learned both Istanbul and Anatolian Turkish by experience, loved it and made it his own language.' In the German world of thought, our literature came to life with his masterful translations. After reaching the top of his career with great difficulty, hard work and brain power, the Army Corps became unable to practice his profession due to the racist laws of the Nazi barbarians. Prof. Dr. Ernst Eduard Hirsch also had to leave his country. This legendary jurist, who made great contributions to the Faculty of Law of Ankara University after Istanbul University, saw Turkey as his second homeland and later became a citizen of the Republic of Turkey. Of course, those who escaped from the Nazi regime and took refuge in Turkey were not limited to them. Architect Clemens Holzmeister, whom Cornelius met in Istanbul and became close friends with... Great musicians Ernst Praetorius, Paul Hindemith and Eduard Zuckmayer... Theater and opera director Carl Ebert... Politician and city planner Ernst Reuter... And many more ... Their stories become intertwined... While Kemal Yalçın, who lives in Germany and is known for his documentary novels Emanet Çeyiz-Exchange People, Senile Güler Yüreğim, Sarı Gelin, brings to light this relatively dark page of history in Haymatlos, the concept of "homeland" is brought to the world's attention. looks through the lens of his citizenship.
