Just like the characters he described in his novels, Joseph Conrad had an extraordinary bond with the sea. With this feeling, he spent his early youth on French merchant ships, and later found himself working in the British merchant fleet... And the following years of his youth were spent in those blue seas. During this long period, he observed various states of people and nature, and perhaps for this reason, his thoughts had an impact beyond the ages.

Heart of Darkness is a work that has exactly these characteristics, and it presents the colonial criticism in its content to the reader in a way that will have an impact not only in the 19th century, but also today and tomorrow. Conrad makes this colonial criticism with such deep analysis and such humane descriptions that it is not for nothing that it is considered one of the darkest novels ever. Because with these descriptions, Conrad was able to masterfully draw the picture of that dark period and those dark souls in the heart of the reader.

The following words he said against the European colonialists who went out of their way for the sake of obtaining ivory, and those who had no human virtue or sense of compassion, are evidence of his astonishment at the horrors he witnessed:
