What is the physics underlying fundamental particles, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and the Higgs boson? This book presents the world of quarks, leptons and the interactions between them, regulated by the fundamental symmetries in nature, as well as the relationship between this world and the infinitely small and infinitely large. The intersection of fundamental particle physics and the development of matter in the first moments of the formation of the universe is one of the greatest achievements of science.

This work begins by describing the so-called standard model, which, in addition to the great experimental successes developed since the 1960s, also has its weaknesses and inadequacies. He then tells the passionate story of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the largest project of a purely scientific nature ever undertaken. It gives details in the design and installation of detection systems, which we call sensors for short, especially ATLAS and CMS, which have unique sizes and complexity levels. The reader is also taken to explore the key results obtained in the first phase of the LHC's operation. As we know, the discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 was later crowned with the Nobel Prize in Physics.
