Historical Crisis and Man - Selected Writings from Ortega y Gasset
'He is the man at the crossroads' Ortega y Gasset: 19th century and 20th century, traditional Spanish culture and contemporary European culture, press and academia, philosophy and politics, Kingdom and Republic, Dictatorship and Democracy, Civil War' His personality developed at the crossroads of various and contradictory historical-social trends that determined and enriched the individual's cultural position after World War II.
The author, who represents the "thinking person" at that junction, suggested turning to everything that surrounds people, has connections with people, and constitutes their area of interest, with "thoughtful attention".
Where does critical thinking reach today?
The twentieth century, as often seen in human history, is full of suffering, oppression, domination and exploitation. But this century also had countless thinkers who defied time and contributed to our understanding of the world we live in with their observations and thoughts. We aimed to present representative examples from these writers who brought new intuitions to our age with the Metis Selections.
When introducing an author living in another country in Turkish, there are difficulties brought about by the differences between the two societies in question, such as language, cultural background, published and unpublished predecessors. We want to overcome this difficulty and make critical thought debatable in Turkish with the selections we have prepared by taking into account the unique conditions of the reading environment in Turkey.
