When talking about closed political parties in Turkey, many people and sources remember the 24 parties closed by the Constitutional Court; However, the number of parties closed by different courts and authorities throughout the 86 years of our Republic's history is actually 60. If we add to this number the 18 parties that were subject to closure by the Constitutional Court and the 5 parties whose closure cases are still ongoing, the gravity of the situation we are experiencing will be better understood.

Following the military coups on 27 May 1960, 12 March 1971 and 12 September 1980, the postmodern coup on 28 February 1997 and the e-memorandum on 27 April 2007, our intermittent democracy has not been interrupted by the closure of political parties. It shows that understanding continues.

The History of Closing Political Parties in Turkey tells the adventure of the parties that went through the process of being closed down and those that were closed down; "It aims to show the futility of closing political parties, and that if a closed party has a social base, it practically returns to the political scene under a different name."
