- I met Ahmed Bamerni 22 years ago in Iraqi Kurdistan. Mam Celal (Jelal Talabani) introduced us. Our friendship with this former peshmerga and new diplomat, whom I have always known with his calm and wise personality, has never ceased. We met either in Paris, Turkey or Iraqi Kurdistan.
Whenever we got together, I, as a journalist, would tell what I witnessed about the Kurds' struggle, and he would tell anecdotes about the developments starting from the years when he was a peshmerga in the impassable mountains of Iraqi Kurdistan and continuing until today.
I had heard many things from Ahmed about the Saddam Regime and the past of the Kurds, but there are such details in the content of the book that they amaze people and make them think again.
There are many things in this book that not many people know or know incompletely about the Kurdish opinion leaders we know in common.
Although I witnessed most of the developments regarding the Kurds in the Middle East after 1985, I learned many things from this book. Because the truth of the Kurdish people is told in its simplest form from the mouth of a peshmerga who devoted his life to this cause.
It sheds light not only on the slippery balances in the evil triangle of the Middle East, but also on many overshadowed turning points in the recent history of the Kurds.
In addition to self-criticism, direct criticism that emphasizes the facts with examples also comes to the fore. In other words, while sometimes the needle is placed on the Kurds and the needle is placed on the forces united to crush them, most of the time the opposite is done, the needle is placed on the Kurds first. Striking this balance well gives the book the feature of being a "mirror of the past".
I believe that the book "I am a Peshmerga Dedicated to My Life" will be an objective work that summarizes for the reader who the Kurds are, what they have experienced, where they came from, and at the same time purifies them from prejudices.
