İhvan-ı Safa Risaleleri Cilt 1
It is reported that a thinker from the Ikhwan al-Safa group said:
“Religion deals with the treatment of patients, philosophy deals with the treatment of healthy people. Prophets treat patients so that their illnesses do not worsen and even heal them completely. Philosophers, on the other hand, protect the health of healthy people so that they do not become infected with any disease.” Ihvan-i Safa is the name of a group that emerged in the tenth century. By writing 52 treatises in the nature of an encyclopedia, they examine many subjects, from mathematics to music, philosophy to astronomy, and magic to love, in a poetic language. In a period of social and intellectual divisions in Islamic history, they strive to purify the heart and elevate humanity, under the guidance of reason. According to them, no science should be an enemy and no book should be avoided. They emphasize tolerance towards other thoughts and beliefs. There are different theories and rumors about who they are. The halo of mystery around them has not been lifted for a thousand years. While it is claimed that the second of the three "secret imams" wrote the Treatises, there are also those who attribute the Brotherhood to different structures, from Ismailis to Nusayris and Druzes. It is known that in 1050, by the order of the Abbasid caliph, the Treatises of the Brotherhood of Safa (along with the works of Ibn Sina) were collected from all libraries and burned. However, the Andalusian thinker Muslim collected the treatises during his journey to the East and saved them from extinction. “(These) treatises are polish, healing, light and light. Even if they cannot be medicine, they are like diseases. If it cannot heal, it makes sick; if it does not reform, it corrupts; If it does not lead to salvation, it destroys. It cures; But sometimes it can also make you sick. “He both kills and gives life.” Finally, the Treatises were translated into Turkish and published in five volumes. This work, which has wandered first with its breath and then with its ghost in a wide geography of culture and thought from East to West for a thousand years, is now waiting to be read and find a place in purified hearts again.
