In the Land of White Lilies
The work, which consists of Grigory Petrov's notes from his travels to Finland at various intervals, describes the situation of the Finnish people in the late 1800s and the extraordinary struggle of a handful of Finnish intellectuals in the country, especially Johan Wilhelm Snelman, to get rid of ignorance.
At the time it was published, Turkish intellectuals and Turkish bureaucracy accepted the ideas contained in this book as an education and development program that should be implemented in the country.
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk requested that the work titled "In the Land of White Lilies" be taught in military schools and recommended to all students.
