Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866): English poet, essayist, opera critic and novelist. The dominant feature of his style is satire. The author first published his most well-known work, The Nightmare Monastery, in 1818, and made some minor changes in its 1837 edition. Although the work is classified as a novel, it has a different structure, blending the genres of essays, plays, poems and novels, like Peacock's other books. The subject is not conveyed with a conventional plot. The characters are caricatures of real people rather than real people. XIX. The Nightmare Monastery, which has a unique place in 19th century English Literature, is the product of subtle humour, deep thought and the power of a colorful imagination.
