Killing the Mouse
A murder... A murder committed in full view of everyone, and in a government office. The murderer is someone inside everyone. One of us...
However, everyone testifies that he is extremely polite, gentle to the point of naivety, and a very, very good person, and exactly for this reason, he is different from everyone else. He is such a good person that we almost believe in his innocence.
So, is he a murderer?
İrfan Yalçın creates a hero with his almost documentary-like fiction based on testimonies and shows that he is the human being inside us. Will this person, whom we never dare to reveal, save any of us from being a murderer?
A person whose goodness we ignored, whose innocence we mocked, whom we left without love and pushed into loneliness, whom we abandoned to pain and hunger, can certainly be called back to life:
“Like everything else, loving is a matter of time…”
To Kill a Mouse was adapted for the cinema in 2015 under the title İçimdeki İnsan, directed by Aydın Sayman.
