Kral Hammurabi ve Babil Günlüğü
I am Hammurabi, the king, the perfect one. The almighty gods have appointed me: That is, I am the shepherd who leads his flock well and whose staff is true. My beneficent shadow spreads over my city. I held the people of Sumer and Akkad in my arms. I look upon them in peace with my guardian god, who is the friend of the land; I surround them with the depth of my knowledge.
“In Babylon, in the city where God Anu and God Enlil set up their heads on high, in Asangila, in the house whose foundations will stand forever like heaven and earth, I wrote my perfect words on my pedestal to regulate the law of the land, determine its decisions, and dispense justice to the disenfranchised. As the king of justice, I made it a rule on the floor of my image. “I am the distinguished king among kings.”
Babylonian Hammurabi can be considered among the most important and well-known rulers of Ancient Mesopotamia. The famous Pillar Laws, which were found by archaeologists in Susa in France and have been the focus of attention again and again since then, are connected with his name and image.
The purpose of this book is to give an idea about the economic and social conditions of Babylon and the capital Babylon in the kingdom of Hammurabi and his successors. First of all, extensive cuneiform materials recovered from the tablet archives of Babylonia were used, as well as King Hammurabi's own documents. Other sources, especially the new tablet letters unearthed from the Middle Euphrates and Mari, provide some new information about Hammurabi's policies and clearly reveal the personality of the king. However, King Hammurabi and the Babylonian Chronicle did not affect its original purpose of depicting the social life of ancient Babylon.
