Alevism is a phenomenon that is still widely discussed, not only in the current political but also in the theological and historical context. There are disagreements or ambiguities starting from terminology, including the definitions of Alevi-Kizilbas-Bektashi and the distinctions between them. The heated differences of interpretation on the issue of whether it is within Islam or a belief specific to itself are diversified by distinctions such as Eastern-Western, Turkish-Kurdish.

The book in your hand tries to address Alevism, which Suavi Aydin defines as an ethno-religious identity in his presentation, on three levels: History, Identity, Belief and Ritual. The "History" section, which constitutes the largest section, sheds light on the internal distinctions, especially the development of the definition of Alevism. The articles in the "Identity" section focus on current agenda issues of Alevis and the Alevi movement. The chapter "Belief and Ritual" presents a very vivid picture of tradition.

The compilation prepared by Yalçin Çakmak and İmran Gürtaş brings together the original works of new generation researchers as well as known experts from Turkey and abroad. It is a study that is hoped to bring the production of social science, which, although still inadequate in this regard, has made significant progress, to the agenda of current debates, not just academics.

Alisan Akpinar, Gürdal Aksoy, Murat Alandagli, Suavi Aydin, Ibrahim Bahadir, Mehmet Bayrak, Yalçin Çakmak, Yavuz Çobanoglu, Ercan Geçgin, Erdal Gezik, Imran Gürtas, Ayfer Karakaya, Ahmet Karamustafa, Hans-Lukas Kieser, Ilker Kiremit, Robert Langer, With the contributions of Fahri Maden, Ahmet Yaşar Ocak, Dilek Kizildag Soileau, Martin Sökefeld, Gülay Tulasoglu, Erdogan Yalgin, Ali Yaman, Riza Yildirim and Besim Can Zirh.
