Dansın Kürt Prensesi Leîla Bederkhan
Leylâ Safiye pursued the story of “Leyla” and her own name for many years. With the meticulousness of a jeweler and great patience, he scanned the twentieth century press, entered the archives, and hunted for photographs for years. Her work bore its first fruit in 2004 and her first book, "Leyla, the Story of a Kurdish Princess", was published. The book actually consisted of the stories of three interconnected women, Leyla.
Leylâ Safiye further advanced her studies and "Searching for Leïla the Kurdish Princess of Dance", which she wrote in English, was published. Until then, information about Leyla Bedirkhan consisted of a few newspaper clippings, but with these studies, Bederkhan began to become much more visible.
Leylâ Safiye is now here with her third book, a full-fledged biography of Leyla Bedirxan: “Leïla Bederkhan, the Kurdish Princess of Dance”.
This book takes the reader on a trip to the 20th century, along with the striking story of Leïla Bederkhan, an "exiled" princess trying to establish herself as a woman and an artist in difficult times, as well as her life and dance adventure. A sometimes enjoyable, sometimes sad trip with art, war, exile and dance in its background...
