Described as "a hand holding both worlds" by its author Yûsuf Hâs Hâcib, Kutadgu Bilig started to be written in Balasagun, and after a writing activity lasting eighteen months, it was completed in Kâşgar in 1069/1070 and was completed in Tavgaç, son of the Karakhanid ruler Süleyman Arslan Hakan. While talking about the transience of time, this advice book, which clings tightly to the material world by establishing the norms of various social relations, determines the principles of ideal life and reveals in verse language the issues necessary for the ideal organization of the administration along with the morality, law and interpersonal relations of the Turkish people, is also known as Islamic Turkish literature. It is his first major work and the first literary work in the style of masnavi written in our language with 6722 couplets. In it, we find ways to reconcile the individual and social contradictions that are brought together to conflict as the container of worldly power and otherworldly happiness, with a balanced morality.
In the cast of people, the khagan Gündoğdu represents the right law and justice, the vizier Aydoldu represents political domination and happiness, Öğdulmuş, who assumed the vizierate as his son and represents understanding and reason, and Öğdulmuş's relative, who represents conviction, outcome, finding the truth by contemplating. Kutadgu Bilig, featuring Odgurmuş, is an allegorical work composed in a half-story, half-theatre style.
Kutadgu Bilig, prepared for publication symmetrically with both the translated text and the text translated into Turkey Turkish by Yaşar Çağbayır, who devoted forty years of his life to the compilation of Ötüken Turkish Dictionary, continues to hold the key to the happiness of two worlds with its timeless wisdom in the 950th year of its writing.
