Laugh
Laughter is one of the actions we do throughout the day without thinking much about it. So, what are the things that make us laugh in our daily lives, and who do we laugh at? What is funny in a work we read or watched? When we start to think about these questions, we realize that the act of laughing is not that understandable at all, and that it has been the subject of deep thoughts from Aristotle to the present day. In this essay called Laughter, Henri Bergson confronts us with the answers to these questions and invites us to think about the details of life. The funny thing is not in nature, but in humans. Various situations, gestures and movements of the human body are ridiculous to the extent that they make us think of this body as a simple machine. Therefore, where there is a rigidity that does not fit with the inner softness of life, that is, in a society that is constantly changing disguises, there is something funny. What is funny is the form that wants to prevail over the substance; It draws our attention to the physical side of the person rather than the spiritual side. Whenever a person gives us the impression of an object, we laugh at that person. Repetition, reversal, change of roles, mechanization of life... We find a funny side in every unnatural thought and behavior. The basic conditions for laughter are the person's incompatibility with society (inattention), the lack of emotion on the part of the audience, and involuntary and unconscious movement.
A person cannot adapt to others or to himself without knowing himself and them. For this reason, rigidity, self-activity, absent-mindedness, and incompatibility with society emerge, and then a funny character is formed. The question specifically sought to be answered in Laughter is the question of why nonconformity with society leads to laughter. For those who want to get lost among the details of life...
