After paying the bill, I take my small suitcase and walk towards the metro in the middle of the square overlooking the café. Before diving into the depths of the subway, I look one last time at the city that has reminded many kings and emperors of its magnificence and power for centuries, and now gives the feeling of being in the wrong time and place with its signs, bright lights, women and men in miniskirts and jeans, and cars that smell of exhaust. But I know that I will not only remember this city as it is, but that it will come to my mind along with that constantly changing steppe metropolis of Anatolia, to which it has no resemblance.

Homeless people. Unanswered phones. Unaddressed letters. Gas masks. Shelters. Ruined buildings. Ruined stairs... Those who return to the past with one last enthusiasm, those who go to the steppe.

The Letter in the Suitcase is a bittersweet story about lack of belonging and love...

Menekşe Toprak tells the story of the dusty roads stretching from Turkey to Berlin and from there to Vienna, and the lives thrown along these roads. Out of breath in limbo.
