Özgürleştiren Praksis
The most important and enduring feature of Freire's work is his emphasis on the political nature of all educational activities. According to Freire, there is no such thing as "neutral" education. Education can either "tame" or "liberate".
One of the most renowned educators of the 20th century, Freire's influence extends beyond the field of education to sociology, political theory, development studies, theology, philosophy, cultural studies, anthropology, language studies and communication.
Concentrating on the centrality of politics, culture and power, drawing on Freire's work, this book contributes to our understanding of how critical knowledge, democratic values and social practices can provide the basis for the redefinition of educators and students as public intellectuals, and in line with this aim, it addresses pedagogical issues from a creative and transformative perspective.
In his book, Mayo includes original and in-depth discussions such as the tension between freedom and authority, the distinction between authority and authoritarianism, considering the Mediterranean as a context within the framework of Freire's views, and examining museums as areas related to class and colonial culture as well as as an educational area. He expresses deserving issues with a solid approach.
