Light Flowing from the Shadow
Light Flowing from the Shadow is the adventure of a light that spreads from the misty cities of the Black Sea to the pallor of the steppe. It is the story of a life that goes from being an ordinary Kuvayi nationalist supporter to being one of Mustafa Kemal's relatives during the War of Independence. It is a novel that reveals the attitude of Anatolian intellectuals towards liberation, republic and revolutions from a realistic perspective.
İbrahim Dizman, Ministry of Culture 7s. With this first novel, which received the 'Achievement Award' in the 2017 Novel Competition, he examines the period he describes with an objective and observational perspective.
Mustafa Kemal also takes his place as a novel hero in Light Flowing from the Shadow, which puts a magnifying glass on the recent history of the Black Sea and the social and political turmoil within the quiet cities of the north:
'From the deck of the Hamidiye cruiser Mustafa Kemal, looking at the thousands of pairs of hands swaying on the shore and the city that looked like it was standing up and almost walking, felt a tiny you inside him. He took off his cap, which was getting heavier in the heat, and stroked his hair. An officer came running and took the cap and respectfully withdrew. His long, thin fingers reached for the collar button; He loosened his dark blue tie and opened a button. A lock of hair licked his forehead and blew in the sea wind. He asked for a cigarette from the officer behind him.
As the ferry sailed from the shore, the city became smaller and narrower, and the hill on which the city rested grew larger. The mountains were becoming more distinct, and a green horizon framed everything. A tuft of clouds sitting on the hill was resisting the wind, crumbling with great effort but not dispersing. The green hill was reaching towards the sky, almost as if it were going to paint both the cloud and the sky green.
Mustafa Kemal, who had not even completed one year in the presidency, thought that this view of the Black Sea cities was always accompanied by a subtle pain. An indescribable you. He still couldn't find the reason. He passed through the streets of Trabzon with the same pain. This also involved you in the sentences that flowed from his heart, blended with complex emotions.
