Machiavelli
Machiavelli is a philosopher of power. According to some, he is the founder of political science, a cold-blooded and common-sense thinker of power relations, while for others, he is an immoral, deceitful and lying power fool, a clumsy misanthrope, or even a demon descended to earth. In his work titled The Sovereign, which earned him this ambiguous fame, the esteemed author presents a prescription for what a ruler should do to seize power and then keep it. In this respect, it is neither the first nor the last. What makes it original, completely different from its predecessors and an archetype and guide for those who follow it, what makes it competent for its relatives and perverted for its opponents, is the attempt to define the values of politics within its own inherent, worldly and even secular criteria, that is, to free it from the sway of morality, conscience and divine justice.
What he basically says is this: The greatest virtue of a ruler is that he "knows how to do evil." He can be ruthless and cruel when necessary, he can dare to bring his enemies to his knees, and he can be courageous and brave enough to take action. So, does this prescription work? Does it make the man "good"? Does the ruler's foresight bring power and prestige to himself, peace and order to the country, and prosperity and happiness to the people? According to the philosopher, this is a matter of fate and fate. If you come across the honorable hour of the unpredictable, capricious and spooky Goddess, how good! To put it from the mouth of a modern wise man, in a way, it is a matter of acting as required by the time, the spirit of the age, and the historical conditions... What about nature, temperament, lineage, historical obligations, destiny... The joyfully gurgling fountain of freedom calms down when the gloom of these dark clouds settles... Foresight and Destiny struggle. A representative expression of Machiavelli's view of both the world and his own life. And in this regard, it is neither the first nor the last.
A cheerful, mischievous and even naughty playwright; a voluptuous womanizer who falls in love with prostitutes; An incompatible diplomat and commander who received a harsh slap from the government and turned into the whipping boy of the powerful; Machiavelli, a wise man who "transformed necessity into virtue" in his forced seclusion.
