Madame Bovary
Famous English novelist and critic Arnold Bennett, while defining classic literature, said, "The book that everyone thinks they have read and that everyone thinks they have read." According to Italo Calvino, a classic is "a book that gives the feeling of discovery that it gave the first time, every time it is read." Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert, who is considered the "father of realism" in French literature, is one of the works that best fits the classical definitions of these two masters.
XIX. Madame Bovary, which displays the life of the 19th century provincial bourgeoisie from a realistic perspective and was the subject of a lawsuit on charges of immorality when it was first published, not only opened a new era in literature, but also survived to this day as one of the very few novels that become newer as they get older and younger as they get older.
