Mario and the Magician is precise, clear and direct. It is an admirable mature work by Nobel Prize winner Thomas Mann, who brought a new style to German storytelling with his language.

Towards nine thirty the audience began to applaud - applauding was a cute way of expressing their justified impatience, as it also expressed the desire to applaud. For the little ones, taking part in it was all part of the fun. Every child loves to clap.
