Marksizm ve Dil Felsefesi
Marxism and Philosophy of Language is one of the groundbreaking works in the history of thought. It is an indispensable cornerstone both in Marxist thought and in linguistics. According to Marx, people make their own history, but not as they wish, on the subjects they choose; He does it under conditions that directly confront him, are given, and are inherited from the past. It is Voloshinov who bases his statement that "The tradition of all past generations collapses on the lives of the living like a nightmare" in language. According to the author, people make language; But again, he does it not as he wishes, but within the given conditions. While people use language, language also uses or shapes people. Written in a period that aimed to dissolve thought and humanity into the total, this book has had a great impact on fields such as literature, psychology and anthropology, as well as linguistics.
The author's purpose; He defines it as "determining the basic directions that Marxist thought should take when it takes language as a research object and describing the methodology it should rely on when dealing with concrete problems of linguistics." By saying "the word is the carrier of ideology, and ideology is a superstructure institution; but semiotic social classes do not overlap", Voloshinov opposes those who see language schematically as a superstructure institution and say that language is unifying and homogeneous in terms of class struggle. On the other hand, he opposes the Saussure school, which transforms language into an ideal abstract object, treats it as a synchronic and homogeneous system, and excludes speech from the field of study because it is individual. According to him, words are living entities that cannot be stuffed into a dictionary; They come to life in a dialogue. A sign is something that represents, describes or substitutes something outside itself. The understanding of a sign derives from a relationship between the comprehended sign and some other signs already known. It is dialogue that creates meaning. The dialectical method is applied to dialogue.
In Marxism and the Philosophy of Language, the foundation of indirect expression, defined as "word within a word, a word about a word", that is, the method of examining the Other's word in literary works, has led to a real revolution whose echoes continue to this day...
To linguists... to those who want to become linguists... to those who ponder the relationship between consciousness and language... To literature lovers and critics who pursue writers who convey to us the word of the hero as the other... to those who want to endure the difficulties of searching for a different left imagination...
