Atilla Güney is one of our professors who witnessed the ups and downs of the academy with his personal life experience, experienced firsthand how independent attitudes were met with "rejection" by official institutions, and was ultimately suspended from the university because he signed the "Academics for Peace" declaration.

In this study titled "Marxist Rejection of Sociology", he deals with a striking analysis of the way in which the Weberian understanding of sociology, which has its roots in idealism, has been functionalized in academic circles, theoretical literature and state administration for many years in order to make class exploitation relations invisible. On the other hand, he explains the projection of the Weberian tradition in Turkey through the texts of popular sociology teachers who are treated almost like "stars".

While Güney explains the historical phases of "sociology", which is presented to students as an objective and impartial discipline in universities, legitimizing capitalist production relations, he also attempts to analyze texts, concepts and ideas. Going to the roots of individual facts, the author explains the opportunities provided by historical materialism to those who want to develop their own original analyzes in this field. Atilla Güney himself carries out a meticulous workmanship of thought in this work, which he dedicates to "Turkish Working Class, whose story is stubbornly refused to be told".

The Marxist Refutation of Sociology, which opens new doors to other readings and research, deserves to be read, thought about and discussed as an original and powerful work.
