Max Weber and the Thought of Economic Sociology Book Description Throughout the 20th century, mainstream economists focused specifically on the role of interests to explain economic behavior, while sociologists tended to emphasize the role of social interaction and social structure. However, there are also sociologists and economists who believe that the only way to make progress in understanding some economic phenomena is to bring interests and social structure together in the same analysis. In this work, Richard Swedberg argues that Max Weber attempted such an integration and was successful in removing many of the obstacles in this direction. Pointing out that despite this success, sufficient attention has not been paid to Weber's economic sociology, the author eliminates an important deficiency by examining the great sociologist's oeuvre from the perspective of economic sociology. Swedberg's work, which examines how Weber's economic sociology evolved and, more importantly, how Weber tried to turn it into a practical and productive analysis through foundational texts such as General Economic History and Economy and Society, is a lasting contribution to economic sociology.
