“According to tradition, a black cloth bag was placed over the heads of those to be executed before they went to the gallows. Spies said before the bag was put over his head:
'The day will come when our silence will be stronger than the voices you drown today.'
Fisher, with the rope around his neck:
Long live the workers!' yell.
Parsons' last words were:
'Let the voice of the people be heard.' “
That's exactly what happened. Over time, it became clear that the silence maintained while American labor leaders were hanged was much stronger than the voices drowned that day. As Parsons said, the voice of the people made itself heard, and in the years after the executions, May 1st began to be experienced with organized actions by workers all over the world.
Some May 1 celebrations were tried to be suppressed with violence and terror in some countries and to intimidate the working class.
For example, in France, a thousand workers were killed on May 1, 1906. On May 1, 1929, 33 people died in Germany. In the 20th century, May 1st celebrations manifested themselves in the form of mass actions and mass murders in many countries of the world.
This book not only reflects the struggle and social development of Turkey's working class on May 1st, but also provides documentary data for May 1st of 1977, which resulted in the killing of 34 people and wounding hundreds of people.
This book will reveal more clearly that May 1, 1977 was a turning point for the Turkish Working Class and the Revolutionary Youth Movements of Turkey.
