Medya ve Oryantalizm
In every case, whether foreign, strange, or different, the other is the common denominator for many antecedents that define what is not like me or us. And understanding the processes that make the other other is of vital importance, especially in terms of being able to determine our own coordinates.
With such an impulse, in the work you have in hand, Louis Massignon says, "To understand the other, we need to be his guest, not to include him in ourselves." Based on the word, orientalism, which is the most well-known and most vocal way of constructing the other in cultural encounters, can be traced in the media reflections.
Within the framework of Media and Orientalism, it is questioned to what extent cultural encounters and representations are dialogical, multi-faceted and polyphonic, on the axis of the traditional concept of "West and the rest", with both current and historical examples in the field of media. The phenomenon of alienation, whose theoretical background is discussed through many styles and examples of "othering in the media", and orientalism, which is based on Eurocentric historiography and "anti-Islamism" as a form of marginalization, is more prevalent than that fed to all other ethnic, racial or religious groups. It is criticized for examples of representation in the media of Easterners, Asians and/or Muslims, where prejudice is fed and defined within a Western-centered representation.
We wish you a pleasant journey on Orient-Express to discover ourselves as much as others...
