Mezopotamya Mitleri
In the 19th century, when experts deciphered the mysterious cuneiform scripts recorded on clay tablets by the Mesopotamians at least 5000 years ago, they unearthed a rich written heritage. The remarkable similarities between what is described in the Bible pushed the people of the Victorian era to reconsider the Bible, which was accepted as the only truth. The story of Gilgamesh, who searches for the secret of immortality, is the predecessor of the flood legend in the story of Noah's Ark. Although there is an alternative narrative about the origin of humankind in the Mesopotamian Creation Epic, the Etana legend is also a predecessor of the Greek Ganymede myth. These and other stories included in the book are based on recent translations and feature depictions both from the period covered and from artists inspired by the discovery of these ancient characters and stories.
