Orta Doğu Tarihi
From Religious, Political, Cultural and Economic Perspective...
In this study prepared by leading experts in the field from all over the world, the Middle East is discussed as four separate political structures - Iran, Turkey, Israel and the Arab world. Topics listed in a chronological framework range from the rise of Islam to its militarization under the rule of various dynasties, from commercial and industrial revolutions to the period of colonial domination and the struggle for independence.
The last part of the book examines the issues that preoccupied historians in the second half of the 20th century and will likely continue to preoccupy them in the 21st century. These issues range from oil to urban growth, from women's modernization to democratic human rights.
Youssef M. Choueiri, who wrote the book Middle East History, is an associate professor at the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of Manchester. Choueiri, who lectures on Middle Eastern history at various universities in the USA, Australia and England, has published the books Islamic Fundamentalism (1997), Arab Nationalism (2000), and Modern Arab Historiography (2003).
